Whether you print with Bambu Lab, Creality, Prusa Research, Snapmaker or another printer that uses 1.75mm filament, you can choose the PLA colour, finish and format that best suits your project.
Shop PLA Filament by Colour
Colour is one of the biggest advantages of PLA. Spool3D carries a wide selection ranging from neutral everyday shades to bright colours, pastels, neons and metallic-looking finishes.
Black, White and Grey PLA
Our black, white and grey PLA filament collection includes some of the most useful colours for functional prints, prototypes, display models and everyday 3D printing. Selected colours are available as both ready-to-print spools and lower-waste refill formats.
Blue, Green and Brown PLA
Browse blue PLA filament, green PLA filament and brown PLA filament for models, terrain, props, architectural prints, decorative pieces and colour-specific projects.
Red, Pink, Purple, Orange and Yellow PLA
For warmer and brighter colours, explore our orange and yellow PLA or red, pink and purple PLA filament. These colours work particularly well for toys, signage, cosplay, school projects, display models and decorative prints.
Neon, Pastel and Metallic-Looking PLA
Choose neon PLA filament for bright, high-visibility prints or pastel PLA for softer colour palettes. Our metal-coloured PLA provides metallic-inspired colours without requiring the print characteristics of metal-filled engineering materials.
PLA Collections, Packs and Cardboard Spools
For themed colours, workshops or customers who want several materials at once, explore the PLA Tools Collection or our PLA Starter Packs. These are convenient options when you want multiple colours without purchasing a full-size roll of every shade.
We also offer PLA on cardboard spools for customers looking for an alternative to traditional plastic filament spools.
Choose PLA by Finish and Appearance
PLA is available in much more than standard solid colours. Different formulations can change gloss, texture, translucency and the way light interacts with a finished print.
Matte PLA Filament
Matte PLA filament produces a softer, low-gloss appearance that can make layer lines less visually prominent. It works especially well for architectural prints, display models, props, organizers and parts where a refined surface finish is preferred.
For parts that change appearance depending on viewing angle, also explore Dual Colour Matte PLA.
Silk PLA Filament
Silk PLA provides a glossy, metallic-style appearance for prints designed to stand out. Silk PLA is popular for vases, sculptures, trophies, decorative models, signs and display pieces.
For more dramatic colour effects, browse Dual Colour Silk PLA, Triple Colour Silk PLA and Rainbow Silk PLA. We also offer a Silk Metals Pack for customers who want several metallic-style colours.
Translucent PLA
Translucent PLA filament allows light to pass through the finished print and is well suited to lamps, illuminated signs, LED projects, decorative models and parts designed around backlighting. Wall thickness, layer height, infill and print orientation can all affect the final level of translucency.
Specialty PLA Filament
Specialty formulations extend PLA beyond conventional solid-colour printing. These materials can provide distinctive visual effects, increased print speed, added flexibility or properties intended for more specialized applications.
Cosmic, Marble and Glow PLA
Cosmic PLA adds a speckled, star-like visual effect, while Marble PLA creates a stone-inspired appearance that works particularly well for statues, architectural models, planters and decorative parts.
For prints that remain visible in low-light conditions, browse Glow-in-the-Dark PLA. Glow and other filled materials can be more abrasive than ordinary PLA, so a wear-resistant nozzle may be useful for frequent printing.
Carbon Fiber PLA
Carbon Fiber PLA provides a darker technical appearance and a different surface texture than conventional PLA. Because carbon-fibre-filled filament is abrasive, a hardened or otherwise wear-resistant nozzle is recommended for regular use.
PLA Plus
PLA Plus is an enhanced PLA formulation intended for customers who want different mechanical or printing characteristics than standard PLA while retaining many of PLA's familiar printing advantages.
High-Speed PLA
Modern high-flow printers can benefit from High-Speed PLA, which is formulated for faster extrusion and printing on machines capable of higher flow rates. Always match print speed with hotend flow capability and the recommendations for the specific filament.
Flexible PLA and Flexible PLA Pro
For projects that require more flexibility than ordinary PLA, explore Flexible PLA and Flexible PLA Pro. These materials provide a different balance of flexibility and printability than standard rigid PLA.
ESD PLA
For specialized electronics and static-sensitive applications, Spool3D also carries ESD PLA filament. Always check the material specifications before selecting an ESD filament for a specific technical application.
PLA Filament Spools, Refills and Large Rolls
PLA is available in several spool formats depending on how much material you use and how you prefer to manage empty spools.
reSpool3D PLA Refills
Our reSpool3D filament refill system provides a reusable-spool option that reduces the amount of disposable spool material. Selected Spool3D PLA colour families are gradually being offered in refill format alongside traditional spools.
2 kg, 4.5 kg and 10 kg PLA Rolls
For production environments, print farms and long-running jobs, selected PLA is available in 2 kg PLA rolls, 4.5 kg PLA rolls and 10 kg PLA rolls. Larger rolls reduce the frequency of spool changes and can be useful when printing many identical parts or large models.
Bambu Lab PLA Filament
Spool3D also stocks genuine Bambu Lab PLA for customers who prefer manufacturer-branded filament for Bambu Lab printers and automatic material systems.
Options include Bambu Lab PLA Basic, Bambu Lab PLA Basic Refill and Bambu Lab PLA Aero.
PLA Filament for Bambu Lab, Creality, Prusa, Snapmaker and Other 3D Printers
Most current FDM 3D printers that use 1.75mm filament can print PLA. This includes popular machines from Bambu Lab, Creality, Prusa Research, Snapmaker and many other manufacturers. Always confirm filament diameter and recommended printing conditions for your specific printer and hotend.
PLA is commonly used with open-frame and enclosed printers alike, but print temperature, cooling, bed surface and extrusion settings can vary between machines and PLA formulations.
Why PLA Is One of the Most Popular 3D Printing Filaments
PLA is widely chosen because it generally prints at moderate temperatures, offers excellent detail and is available in more colours and aesthetic finishes than almost any other filament family. It normally requires less thermal management than materials such as ABS, nylon or polycarbonate.
PLA is especially well suited to models, prototypes, toys, cosplay parts, signs, organizers, educational projects, fixtures and decorative prints.
For parts exposed to higher temperatures, greater impact, demanding outdoor conditions or heavier mechanical use, another filament may be a better choice. Compare PLA with PETG filament, ABS filament, ASA filament, nylon filament or polycarbonate filament when your application requires different material properties.
PLA Printing Tips
The ideal nozzle temperature, bed temperature, cooling and print speed depend on the specific PLA formulation and your printer. Standard PLA, matte PLA, silk PLA, high-speed PLA and filled materials can all require different settings, so use the recommendations supplied with the filament as your starting point.
Keep filament clean and dry, confirm that your first layer is correctly calibrated and use a nozzle appropriate for the material. Abrasive formulations such as carbon fiber, glow and some filled specialty PLA materials can cause accelerated wear on standard brass nozzles.

PLA Filament Frequently Asked Questions
What is PLA filament?
PLA, or polylactic acid, is a thermoplastic commonly used as filament for FDM and FFF 3D printers. It is popular for general-purpose printing because it is relatively easy to print and is available in an exceptionally large variety of colours, finishes and formulations.
What size PLA filament does Spool3D sell?
The PLA products on this page are primarily 1.75mm PLA filament, which is the filament diameter used by most modern desktop 3D printers. Check your printer specifications before ordering if you are unsure which diameter it requires.
What is the difference between matte PLA and silk PLA?
Matte PLA is designed for a subdued, low-gloss finish, while silk PLA produces a smoother and shinier appearance that can resemble polished or metallic surfaces. Both are PLA-based materials, but their appearance and ideal print settings can differ.
What is the difference between standard PLA and PLA Plus?
Standard PLA prioritizes easy printing and broad colour selection. PLA Plus is a modified PLA formulation intended to provide different mechanical or printing characteristics. Exact properties vary by manufacturer, so always compare the technical information for the specific material.
Is PLA suitable for beginners?
PLA is generally one of the easiest filament types to start with and is widely used by beginners, schools, hobbyists and experienced users. Good first-layer calibration and appropriate temperature settings are still important for reliable results.
Does PLA need a heated bed?
PLA can often be printed at relatively low bed temperatures compared with higher-temperature engineering materials. Whether a heated bed is required depends on the printer, build surface and PLA formulation.
Should PLA filament be kept dry?
Yes. PLA should be stored in a dry environment when it is not being used. Keeping filament dry helps maintain consistent extrusion, surface finish and print quality.
Can PLA be printed quickly?
Yes, but maximum practical speed depends on the printer, hotend flow capability and filament formulation. For machines designed for higher flow rates, consider High-Speed PLA.
