General-purpose 3D scanning POP 4 Five scanning modes cover a wide range of objects and environments.
Reverse engineering and mechanical parts MetroX / MetroX Pro Professional blue laser and structured-light scanning with high dimensional accuracy.
Portable professional laser scanning MetroY / MetroY Pro Wi-Fi 6, lightweight construction and high-speed blue-laser scanning.
Scanning without carrying a computer MIRACO Integrated processing, touchscreen, battery and storage.

Laser Scanning vs. Structured-Light Scanning

Blue laser scanners such as the MetroX and MetroY families are especially useful for mechanical parts, dark surfaces, metal components and reverse-engineering workflows. Laser scanning generally requires tracking markers, but it can capture many difficult surfaces that are challenging for conventional structured-light systems.

Structured-light scanners project a pattern onto the object and calculate its shape from the distortion of that pattern. They can provide fast, marker-free scanning when an object has sufficient surface geometry.

Hybrid scanners such as the POP 4, MetroX Pro and MetroY Pro combine multiple capture technologies so the scanning method can be selected according to the object and application.

What Is 3D Scanning Used For?

  • Reverse Engineering: Create digital geometry from existing components.
  • 3D Printing: Capture physical objects for modification, reproduction or repair.
  • Product Development: Digitize prototypes, mouldings and manufactured components.
  • Quality Control: Compare scanned geometry against reference models or CAD data.
  • Art and Preservation: Digitize sculptures, artwork and historical objects.
  • Education: Introduce students to digital manufacturing, CAD and reverse-engineering workflows.
