Multi-Colour and Multi-Material Printing Without the Usual Purge Waste

The Snapmaker U1 is a high-speed CoreXY 3D printer built around a true four-toolhead changing system. Instead of repeatedly unloading and reloading different filaments through a single nozzle, the U1 keeps four separate toolheads ready and switches the complete toolhead when another colour or material is needed.

Snapmaker's SnapSwap™ system can complete a direct toolhead change in approximately five seconds. Because each filament remains loaded in its own hot end, the U1 dramatically reduces the purging normally required by shared-nozzle multi-colour systems. In Snapmaker testing, multi-colour prints used up to 85% less waste filament than comparable shared-nozzle filament-changing systems.

Four Independent Toolheads

Four independent toolheads give the U1 much more flexibility than a conventional single-nozzle multi-colour printer.

Each toolhead can remain loaded with its own filament, allowing the printer to move quickly between colours and materials without repeatedly pulling filament through the same extrusion path.

This makes the U1 especially useful for:

Less Purging, More Printing

Traditional single-nozzle multi-colour systems must purge the previous filament whenever the colour or material changes.

The U1 approaches the problem differently.

Rather than changing the filament inside one hot end, it changes the entire toolhead. The next nozzle can already contain the correct material and be preheated for use.

The result is:

  • Faster colour and material transitions
  • Much less purge material
  • Lower filament consumption
  • Smaller waste piles
  • More practical prints with frequent colour changes
  • Better separation between different materials

Snapmaker notes that a small amount of material can still be used for nozzle cleaning, prime towers and calibration, so the system is not completely waste-free.

270 × 270 × 270 mm Build Volume

A 270 × 270 × 270 mm build area gives the Snapmaker U1 enough space for larger models, multiple parts and batch printing.

The generous cubic build area combines particularly well with the four-toolhead system, allowing large multi-colour objects to be produced without sacrificing a significant portion of the build platform to a bulky filament-changing mechanism.

Up to 500 mm/s High-Speed Printing

The CoreXY motion system is designed for fast printing while keeping moving mass under control.

The U1 supports:
