Worldwide PLA Shortage and Price Increase
Back in the late fall of 2019, you may have heard some news regarding a worldwide PLA shortage. This was due to the increased demand put on the PLA pellet industry from new and increased production of compostable plastic products such as cup lids, disposable cups, straws, bags, etc.
Our manufacturer was kind enough to not increase costs immediately and chose to give us a delayed price increase. The 15% price increase was made in March 2020 and will be reflected in our order arriving this month, May 2020. We chose to absorb the majority of the price increase ourselves to remain more competitive in the market. Our PLA-based filament lines will increase in price by $1 CAD, or 3.4%.
We want you to know that our filament is of the same quality as we believe filament quality cannot be compromised for quality printing by adding recycled material or other additives in order to keep pricing low.
