1.75mm 3D Printer Filament Material
We have a large variety of 3D printing materials available that work in any 1.75mm diameter capable 3d printer. We can provide the raw material for your 3d printer in a wide variety of types, ranging from the more popular and common PLA, ABS and PETG filament, to nylon, polycarbonate, wood, HIPS, PVA, ASA, metal filled, and flexible (TPU, TPE, FlexPLA) filament. Our 3D printer filament is now available in a wide palette of vibrant Pantone coded colour options for our best selling PLA, ABS and PETG filament lines under the Spool3D brand. Refill 3D printer filament material, similar to 'Masterspool', is also available in PLA.
Great prints start with great filament. 3D printer filament that is easy easy to print with and always reliable. Our 3D printer filament is specially formulated and coloured to our standards and not just a rebranded product. 3D printing in Canada made easy. Print it right, with Spool3D print materials, your 3D printing source in Calgary.
PLA (Polylactic Acid):
- Characteristics: Easy to use, biodegradable, and comes in a wide range of colors.
- Applications: Ideal for beginners, prototyping, and decorative items. It has a low warping tendency but is less heat-resistant and can be brittle.
ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene):
- Characteristics: Strong, durable, and heat-resistant. It has a higher tendency to warp compared to PLA.
- Applications: Suitable for functional parts and products that need to withstand higher temperatures. Requires a heated bed and good ventilation due to fumes.
PETG (Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol):
- Characteristics: Combines ease of use with strength and flexibility. Less prone to warping than ABS and more heat-resistant than PLA.
- Applications: Great for functional parts, containers, and parts requiring chemical resistance. It’s also moisture-resistant.
TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane):
- Characteristics: Flexible, rubber-like, and impact-resistant. It can be tricky to print with due to its flexibility.
- Applications: Used for items needing flexibility like phone cases, gaskets, or wearable items.
Nylon:
- Characteristics: Strong, durable, and flexible with good chemical resistance. It can absorb moisture, which can affect print quality.
- Applications: Ideal for functional parts requiring high strength and durability, such as gears or mechanical components.
ASA (Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate):
- Characteristics: Similar to ABS but with better UV resistance and weatherability. It’s less prone to fading and is more suitable for outdoor use.
- Applications: Perfect for outdoor parts and applications where exposure to sunlight is expected.
HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene):
- Characteristics: Lightweight, strong, and often used as a support material with ABS due to its solubility in limonene.
- Applications: Commonly used in dual-extruder setups where it can be used as a support structure that can be dissolved after printing.
PVA (Polyvinyl Alcohol):
- Characteristics: Water-soluble and used primarily as a support material for complex prints. It’s not very strong on its own.
- Applications: Useful in dual-extruder setups to print intricate designs with supports that can be dissolved in water.
Composite Filaments:
- Characteristics: These are filaments mixed with other materials like carbon fiber, wood, or metal to enhance properties like strength or appearance.
- Applications: Used for specialized prints requiring enhanced mechanical properties or unique aesthetics, such as carbon-fiber-reinforced parts or wood-like finishes.
Each filament type has its unique properties and best-use scenarios, so the choice depends on your specific printing needs and the characteristics you require in your final print.
Proper storage of 3D printing filaments is essential to maintain their quality and ensure successful prints. Here’s a list of tips for storing your filaments:
-
Keep Dry: Store filaments in a dry environment to prevent moisture absorption, which can lead to poor print quality and clogging. Use desiccant packs or silica gel in the storage container to absorb any humidity.
-
Seal in Airtight Containers: Use airtight bags or containers to protect filaments from moisture and dust. Vacuum-sealed bags are particularly effective.
-
Avoid Direct Sunlight: Store filaments away from direct sunlight or UV light, which can degrade the material over time, especially for materials like PLA and ABS.
-
Maintain Stable Temperature: Keep filaments in a temperature-controlled environment. Extreme temperatures or fluctuations can affect filament properties. Ideally, store them at room temperature.
-
Keep Away from Chemicals: Store filaments away from chemicals or substances that might interact with or degrade the filament material.
-
Label and Organize: Clearly label your filament spools with the type and color to easily identify them. Organize them to prevent tangling and damage.
-
Use Filament Dryers: For filaments known to absorb moisture (like Nylon or PVA), consider using a filament dryer or heated storage box to keep them dry.
-
Check for Contamination: Regularly inspect filament spools for any signs of contamination or degradation. Replace any that show signs of wear or damage.
-
Rotate Stock: Use older filaments first to ensure that they don’t sit unused for too long, which can affect their performance.
Following these storage tips will help ensure that your filaments remain in good condition and perform well during printing.
