Wanhao Duplicator i3 Plus Issue
SPOOL3D SERVICE NOTE
Wanhao Duplicator i3 #2016-0918
Date: September 18, 2016
Model affected: Duplicator i3 Plus, possibly earlier versions of Wanhao Duplicator i3 and any other 3D printer that has the heat bed installed in the same way.
Urgency: High
Problem: There has been a report of the heat bed springs possibly being able to scratch through the electrically insulated layer of the heat bed. This can cause the spring to electrically conduct the voltage and amperage at the spring contact point of the heat bed circuit to the metal plate located below the heatbed. In some cases, the movement of the heat bed during printing can cause another contact to short this voltage to ground, causing a safety hazard. For further information, please refer to the following YouTube video, courtesy Chep 3D Printing:

Fix: There is a simple fix. Please print off four of the following insulated washers from the Thingiverse link below and install between the heatbed and securing nuts located under the heatbed. In models other than the Wanhao Duplicator i3 Plus, please install so there is no direct contact of the heatbed with the heatbed springs. Please refer to Figure 2 for installation location. Due to the importance of this issue, Spool3D will provide all new purchases of the Wanhao Duplicator i3 v2.1 and Plus with the 4 washers to be installed by the end user.
