Print it right with Spool3D PLA 3D printer filament.  Our PLA thermoplastic filament is manufactured with tight tolerances from premium grade material.

These filaments allow light to pass through, creating stunning visual effects and a sense of depth. Perfect for lampshades, artistic creations, prototypes that need to show internal structures, or anything that benefits from a subtle glow, our PLA Translucent filament is made with the same high-quality standards you expect from Spool3D.

Like our standard PLA, our translucent PLA is easy to print and offers excellent layer adhesion. It's a fantastic material for both beginners and experienced users looking to add a touch of sophistication to their 3D printing projects. Our Translucents PLA filament is available in a range of captivating shades, all precisely Pantone-matched for consistent and reliable results.

Explore Our 1.75mm PLA Translucent Colours Collection:

    • Translucent Black - It has a smoky or shadowy quality, allowing some light to pass through. The darkness will vary depending on the thickness of the print. Thinner sections will appear lighter and more translucent, while thicker areas will be much darker, approaching opacity.
    • Translucent Blue - Captures that bright, clean, and inviting blue. It's a classic "sky blue" but with a noticeable vibrancy and saturation that makes it stand out.
    • Translucent Light Blue - Imagine a vivid and intense sky blue, almost electric in its brightness. It's a pure and clean blue that immediately catches the eye.
    • Translucent Green - A bright spring green. It's a fresh, energetic colour that evokes the feeling of new growth and springtime.
    • Translucent Orange - A highly saturated and luminous orange. It's not quite a fluorescent "neon" in the traditional sense, but it possesses a brightness that makes it stand out significantly.
    • Translucent Pink - It's often described as a bright neon rose or a strong, electric pink. It has an intensity that makes it stand out significantly.
    • Translucent Purple - A classic "true" purple, often associated with royalty and sophistication. It sits squarely between blue and red on the color wheel without a strong lean towards either.
    • Translucent Red - A classic, true red. It's not leaning towards orange or blue; it's a clean and direct red hue.
    • Translucent - Unlike clear materials like glass, translucent PLA allows light to pass through but diffuses it, so objects viewed through it will appear blurred or indistinct. Think of frosted glass or a sheer fabric.
    • Translucent Yellow - A classic, cheerful yellow. It's reminiscent of a fresh lemon or the bright yolk of an egg. It's a clean and straightforward yellow without significant green or orange undertones that would shift its character dramatically.

Why Choose Our 1.75mm PLA Filament?

    • Translucent Effect: Allows light to pass through, creating a unique visual depth.
    • Elegant and Sophisticated: Adds a touch of class to your prints.
    • Exceptional Printability: Our PLA is formulated for smooth extrusion, minimal warping, and excellent layer adhesion.

PLA filament is an excellent material for a beginner to start with and has the added benefit of being a bio-plastic, typically derived from corn.  Low odour and consistently round diameters make this material very easy to work with.

Translucency of your print depends on many factors:

    • Dry your filament just prior to printing
    • Higher printing temperature can introduce more bubbles in your print, which means less translucency
    • Thicker layer height = more translucency
    • Less perimeters = more translucency
    • Reduce or eliminate infill.
    • Increase Flow Rate (Slightly Over Extrude): A slight increase in the flow rate can help to eliminate tiny gaps between extrusion lines, making the print more solid and transparent. Increase incrementally (e.g., 101-105%).
    • Consider "Vase Mode" (Spiralize Outer Contour): For single-walled prints, vase mode can eliminate layer changes and retractions, resulting in a continuous extrusion that can enhance transparency.
    • Increasing wall width (perimeters) makes translucent colours deeper.
    • "Translucent" vs. "Transparent": Keep in mind that most FDM-printed "clear" filaments will likely be translucent (allowing light to pass through diffusely) rather than truly transparent (allowing clear vision through the object) without significant post-processing.
    • Material Choice: Some filaments, like PETG, are inherently capable of achieving higher clarity than PLA with proper printing and post-processing. However, PLA is easier to print.
    • Experimentation: Achieving optimal clarity often requires experimentation with different settings and post-processing techniques specific to your printer, filament, and desired outcome. Start with small test prints to dial in your settings.

Tips for Printing with PLA:

    • Ensure your bed is level for optimal first layer adhesion.
    • Experiment with printing temperatures to find the best results for your printer.
    • Consider using a cooling fan for intricate details and bridging.
    • Store your PLA filament in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight when not in use. Please use the resealable plastic bag with the desiccant pack provided.

Cannot print this filament no matter what

Posted by AG on November 04, 2024

I've tried again and again to print this filament to no avail. I've tried it on multiple printers, after extended time in a filament dryer, various temperature settings +/- 15C of the recommended conditions, and have yet to have a single successful print on my Purple translucent spool. It's the only spool that's ever given me this much trouble, the ABS bought from Spool3D works perfectly fine and I've gone through many other brands' PLA without issue.

    Wish this was better :(

Posted by Eric Jones on December 31, 2024

I use spool 3d for majority of my dialment but I steer clear of this. The layer adheason is horrible and it abosrbs moister while being dried, cant think of very many sucesssful prints that ive had with my 3 spools of varies colours, the only saving grace it that when it prints well, it pritns WELL and looks amazing. Kid love it, adults love it. But i only reccomend to people who are capible of printing from a drier and have time to deal with the problems, also don;t buy it in bulk. Ive never gone thorugh 1/2 a spool because it has very niche cases!!

    PLA Translucent

I had to up my bed temperature and hot end temperature to get this to adhere to the bed surface. After that the Pla made very nice quality prints.
