Offering enhanced UV resistance compared to ABS, ASA is the ideal choice for outdoor applications, automotive parts, signage, and any project requiring long-term exposure to the elements. Combining strength, rigidity, and a smooth, attractive finish, ASA provides a significant upgrade for demanding 3D printing needs.

Like ABS, ASA offers excellent mechanical properties and can be easily post-processed through sanding, painting, and gluing. Spool3D's ASA filament is manufactured to high standards for consistent quality and reliable printing. Available in a range of solid colours, our ASA filament will empower you to create robust, weather-resistant, and aesthetically pleasing 3D printed objects.

Discover Our 1.75mm ASA Colour Collection:

    • Black ASA: A classic and versatile choice for strong, durable prints.

Tips for Printing with ASA:

    • Use a Heated Bed: A heated bed is crucial for ASA to prevent warping and ensure good adhesion.
    • Use an Enclosure: An enclosure helps to maintain a warm and stable printing environment, further reducing warping and improving layer adhesion.
    • A heated enclosure is recommended for taller prints: As the print is built further away from the bed, the heated environment around the print drops in temperature. A heated chamber helps with this uneven cooling of the print.
    • Apply Bed Adhesion Aids: Use materials like glue stick, hairspray, or specialized build plate surfaces to improve first layer adhesion.
    • Use Low to Medium Cooling: While some cooling can help with overhangs, excessive cooling can lead to warping. Experiment to find the right balance.
    • Increase Brim or Raft: Using a brim or raft can help to increase the surface area in contact with the bed and improve adhesion.
    • Ventilation: Ensure good ventilation in your printing area as ASA can emit fumes during printing.
    • Store your ABS filament in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight when not in use. Please use the resealable plastic bag with the desiccant pack provided.

Safety:

Ensure proper ventilation when printing with ASA as it can release fumes. Consider using an enclosure with a filter for extended printing sessions.

    Great ASA so far

Posted by Chris Brummet on February 02, 2025

Heard the usual mix of 'ASA is so hard' or 'I've printed 100+ kg of ASA with no issues' comments online and decided to give it a try, as ABS still liked to warp a bit too much for my tastes. Bed adhesion and overall quality seem very nice with this filament, will continue to test and put it through its paces, but I can't give anything less than a perfect score to a filament that pops out an objectively excellent test print on its first try.

    ASA

Posted by Brett on November 21, 2022

Great service in terms of ordering from you guys as always. As for the product, had to use a heat tower to determine what print settings I needed. Even with default settings for ASA, this material printed great. I ordered this material to replace a part on my fathers boat as for some reason the brand no longer sold this part. So some time in CAD and 56min on the printer and I gave him a new part that I tested to be stronger than the original. With the great UV resistance and higher temperature limit of this material was perfect for the application.

    great filament for the price!

Posted by Ray on July 17, 2021

I've been meaning to try spool3ds filaments for a while now, gave a roll of Asa a shot and it's great. Easy to print, accurate and strong! I am using an enclosure, 250degC hotend, 95degC bed, 90/45mms print speed.
